CheckMates – Privacy Policy

CheckMates ("we", "our", or "us") is a bill-splitting app that helps groups divide restaurant and other receipts fairly. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Receipt images. When you use the Scan Receipt feature, the photo you take is sent to our secure server solely to extract item names and prices using AI. The image is processed in real time and is not stored on our servers after the response is returned.
Purchase records. If you buy the Unlimited Scans upgrade, Google Play processes and stores payment information. We receive only a confirmation that the purchase was made; we never see your payment details.
Local preferences. The app stores settings (e.g. scan count, purchase status) in your device's local storage only. This data never leaves your device.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information.
We do not use analytics or advertising SDKs.
We do not track your location.
We do not sell or share any data with third parties.

3. How We Use Your Information

Receipt images are used exclusively to identify line items and prices so the app can display them for you to assign and split. No other use is made of this data.

4. Third-Party Services

Anthropic Claude API – used server-side to read receipt images. Image data is transmitted to Anthropic's servers under their Privacy Policy.
Google Play Billing – handles in-app purchases under Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Data Retention

We do not retain receipt images or any personal data on our servers. All bill-splitting data exists only on your device and is cleared when you close the app or start a new session.

6. Children's Privacy

CheckMates is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
